While I don’t wear makeup everyday, days where I leave the house without mascara are few and far between – That was until I gave eyelash extensions a run… and let me tell you, they are LIFE CHANGING. I got them for the first time around three years ago and have been getting them on and off ever since! If you’ve ever been interested in giving them a try, have questions about cost, how to care for them, etc. keep reading!

Application Process:

Lash extensions are individually applied hair fibers glued to the base of an eyelash. One by one, the lash technician will separate your lashes and glue a voluminous / lengthening lash to your natural one. The result? A perfect set of long, dark lashes that will leave you looking more beautiful than ever before. The application process for an initial set takes anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hours. It may sound like a long time, but I promise it flies by! I find it so relaxing to just lay there phone free and relax. If that still sounds like an eternity to you, you can listen to a podcast or music to pass time!

Volume Vs. Classic:

Similar to showing your hairdresser a picture of a new haircut, you can show your lash tech a photo of the exact eyelash look you want to create. Believe it or not, there are many different lash styles and determining what you want is important. I naturally have pretty long / full eyelashes so I prefer my extensions to be on the more voluminous side. A classic set is a method involving a 1:1 ratio (one extension attached to one lash). This is perfect if you already have a lot of lashes and are looking to add length. This is the most natural look. A volume set involves more than one extension applied to one natural lash (1:2 or 2:3 ratio). This is perfect if you don’t have a lot of lashes and are looking for a more dramatic look. I typically go with the classic/volume hybrid set. It’s a happy medium that ups the classic set in the volume department but isn’t too dramatic!

(Hybrid Lashes)

How Long Do They Last?

You lose anywhere from 2-5 lashes on a given day. Natural eyelashes grow in and fall out in cycles. Just like your regular lashes, extensions follow a similar cycle. When you have extensions, the natural lash simply falls out taking the extension with it! After getting an initial set, it is recommend to get a fill every 2-3 weeks as they will become scarce. If you are just riding out a full set, they can last a significant amount of time. When I would get them before going away to school they lasted a little over a month! There are definitely steps you can take to preserve them for as long as possible, but i’ll touch on that later.

How Much Do They Cost?

Eyelash extensions are definitely an expensive addition to your beauty regime, however I fully believe they are worth it. Out of all the beauty products and services i’ve tried, this is by far my favorite. An initial set typically ranges anywhere from $100-$250. Every 2-3 weeks a fill is typically around $100.

Do They Damage Your Real Lashes?

The extension alone will not damage your lash, however improper application or a lash tech’s disregard for the correct type of lash (for your natural lashes) very well can. It’s super important to go to a reputable salon / lash tech. As long as the tech was properly trained your eyelashes will not suffer any harm! It may be a little shocking when they’re all off, but it is most likely because you’ve gotten so used to the full / long lashes you had with extensions! Just like your nails, it’s important to give them a break here and there. After every few fills I let them go back to normal just as a precaution. Iv’e never experienced any issues with my natural lashes falling out or anything of the sort.

How To Care For Them:

Number one rule: Don’t use products with oil! When it comes to lash extensions, you will not need to wear mascara and shouldn’t. Oil-based or waterproof mascara will break down the paste holding the extensions to your natural lash. That goes for makeup remover and other products that you put on your face. You will just need to be careful when applying makeup around your eye, and just as careful when removing your makeup. I use micellar water, an oil free remove, on a cotton ball to remove my makeup. After that, I wash the lashes with lash bath to prevent any dirt / grime buildup on the lashes themselves. Throughout the day you’ll want to brush your lashes with a spooly. Your lash girl will give you one after getting them done, but I bough my own set from amazon and have a few in my car, room, and bathroom…you never know when they’ll come in handy:) Brushing them will prevent wonky lashes from hanging down and assist with the natural fall out process.

Final Thoughts:

If you’ve made it this far, this is your sign to treat yourself to some lash extensions. You won’t regret it. They are seriously the best! If you have any other questions, let me know and I’d be happy to help. My cousin is a lash artist so I’ve learned everything from the best!

Happy Tuesday! Been a minute since the last time I posted, so coming in HOT with some swimwear this week. Now that it is officially summer and weekend trips are in full swing, I wanted to share some of my favorite finds.

Both of our swimmies are listed under the bikini section! Left is only $12 from Shein and the right is an Amazon find. Just a little side note, the leopard one is definitely a little cheeky, but I love how high it comes up on the hips! It’s super flattering. The day I wore it in this photo I took off the front tie piece and wore it as a bandeau. As seen on the model, you can wear it a few different ways!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I don’t know about you, but loungewear is staring to get very boring these days. While I do love a good jogger set, I’ve pretty much had it with this lazy outfit game more than 4 weeks into quarantine. I am definitely looking forward to the day where we can all dress up again and show off our quarantine buys 😉

I threw together some of my favorite spring finds…many of which I own, just ordered, or have my eye on!

Dresses

 • Dresses are a spring staple for sure, and the eyelet pattern is back again this season.
 • You truly can’t go wrong with a little white dress, but I think there’s no better time than spring to add some color into your closet!
 • You might opt to dress it up with some heels, or dress it down with some sneakers.

White Jeans

 • From neutral to pastel, crop top to blouse, white jeans can be paired with any top.
 • The cropped straight style is currently trending and look adorable with a mule!

Cropped Jeans

 • Perfect for transitioning into spring.
 • Look flattering with both sandals and sneakers.

Lightweight Blouses/Tops

 • I’m more of a neutral girl, but have made it a point to experiment with color more!
 • These are great for both white and blue jeans.
 • Little tip: When it comes to spring tops, I wouldn’t splurge too much. It’s smarter to splurge more on shoes and handbags since you will be wearing them again and again, and can carry them into the summer months.

Jean Jacket

 • A year round favorite.
 • Perfect for layering over dresses or tying around your waist!

Sneakers

 • White definitely seems to be a favorite, but don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and add some color into your outfit.
 • I wouldn’t have typically opted for a snakeskin sneaker, but the vintage Havana ones have quickly become my go to pair.
 • The options below would look super cute with a pair of jeans, a dress, or even joggers!

Slides/ Mules

 • Perfect for those awkward in between months (AKA right now) when it’s still a little too early for open toed shoes.

Handbags/ Crossbody Bags

 • Lighter, more neutral handbags are suitable for spring.
 • If you’re looking for a classy well made handbag, I highly recommend either Polene bag! In comparison to other designer bags, they are relatively inexpensive, especially for the quality and stunning design.

Headband Details: Only $6.99, shade brown!

Let’s talk HAIR.

Let me preface by saying that I am in no way an expert when it comes to hair. I try my best to nourish and protect it as best as I can but again, i’m still learning! What I can say is that I’ve done my fair share of personal research. I worked at a hair salon a few years ago and made sure to pick the stylists brains and ask my fair share of questions!

I’ve found some really great products that work for me, so i’d love to share a few!

Shampoo and Conditioner

Let’s start with shampoo and conditioner- the foundation of a haircare routine. One of the most important things when it comes to a shampoo is ensuring that it is free of sulfates, especially if you color your hair. Ever wonder why your shampoo emulsifies and gets super sudys? That’s because it’s probably loaded with a whole bunch of common sulfate ingredients. These are super harsh for your hair AND skin. Not only can they strip your ever so expensive salon color job, but they can also strip away the natural moisture from your hair! No thank you.

My favorite and unfortunately most expensive use is the Olaplex shampoo and conditioner treatment. If you’ve never heard of Olaplex, it’s a brand that restores broken bonds within your hair…whether that be from excessive heat, over coloring, or just the hussle of everyday life. I’ve only used one bottle of this shampoo and conditioner, but let me tell you the results were insane. I will be repurchasing. My hair was feeling super dry and damaged after a balayage I got several months ago…my hair was over-processed by the stylist and insanely dry as a result. After using these products the texture of my hair was restored. SO shiny and so healthy!

I’ve personally found that switching up my shampoos and conditioners prevents my hair from getting used to a product. In addition to Olaplex, I LOVE Amika’s products. The smell you guys. SO. GOOD. These are also sulfate free and for all hair types. The shampoo in particular is said to provide a gentle cleansing, without the use of harsh chemicals. It has loads of vitamins and I can truly see how much more nourished my hair is.

Hair Mask

I typically use heat on my hair once or twice a week (usually on the weekends when I go out). If you know me, you know I wont leave the house for an outing without getting all dolled up – full head of curls in all its glory 😉 With that unfortunately comes added damage. I like to use the amika hair mask at least once a week to strengthen my hair and protect against breakage. I’ve seen a serious reduction in split ends and some of the fraying caused by curling my hair so often. Consistency is key when it comes to something like this. Stick with a routine and you will definitely see a difference if you give it a try! (Side note: you can find this hair mask at TJ Maxx sometimes, definitely snag it if you see it, you won’t regret it!)

Hair Serums

As for other products and hair serums, I’m recently hooked on the Olaplex no. 7 bonding oil. (Again this is the oplex line which prides itself in forming healthy disulfide bonds to strengthen your hair) This might very well be my all time favorite product. I use this as my heat protectant prior to blow drying, curling, or straightening. I can not even begin to tell you how soft your hair will feel after using this. Even when i’m not using heat, i’ll run a nickel size amount of this product through my damp hair…the next morning my hair is so soft and manageable. It also increases shine, minimizes frizz, AND protects against temperatures up to 450 degrees.

My last 2 recommendations have very similar effects. The Davines OI Oil detangles, fights frizz, and is great for dry hair. Not only does it smell amazing but I don’t find it to be as thick as some of the other hair oils on the market. I love this company and how they break down their product. You can search through a glossary of ingredients – and really dive into what benefits your hair will see. This product in particular is made with roucou oil. While i’m sure you’ve heard of argan oil or moroccan oil (another one of my favorite products) and their benefits- roucou oil is another great product to incorporate into your hair care routine. UV rays can be insanely damaging, not only for your hair but your scalp as well. This product protects against just that and increases the production of melanin.

For me personally, these products are an investment well worth it. Hair is one of the first things I notice about a person so I make it a point to really take care of my own and keep it looking its best. Having healthy, well nourished, hair is such a confidence booster – it’s truly worth every penny!

Let me know if you plan on trying any of these products!!

**Will also be doing another hair post more geared toward styling products (texture spray, volume boost, dry shampoo etc) because boy do I love those**

Two Ways To ~Casually~ Style A Graphic Tee http://addiekirk.com/two-ways-to-casually-style-a-graphic-tee/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=two-ways-to-casually-style-a-graphic-tee http://addiekirk.com/two-ways-to-casually-style-a-graphic-tee/#comments Mon, 24 Feb 2020 04:12:02 +0000 http://addiekirk.com/?p=441 View Post

]]>

**My exact graphic tee sold out super fast but here is a similar one from the same boutique (wearing size L)**

Layering:

An easy way to add structure to an oversized graphic tee is to layer some kind of jacket, cardigan, or blazer on top. Tuck in the tee or tie it in a side knot, pair it with dark jeans, a jacket, and your choice of sneaker and you’ve got yourself the perfect outfit for a day trip to the city!

I’m obsessed with this leather jacket from Nordstrom (wearing a size small) but if this isn’t your look, another casual way to style a graphic tee is by adding some denim.

Denim:

Denim jackets are super versatile and can be worn in any season. I love tying them around my waist during the day and wearing them over my shoulder once it cools off at night! I prefer the oversized look, so I opted for an XL. Couldn’t decide whether or not I like the pop of blue or yellow in the hat more but love a good baseball hat with a t-shirt!

Primer

After moisturizing I start with the BECCA priming filter. It brightens the skin and gives it a perfect sheer base. This is the best way to prep your skin for foundation and other makeup to follow. Not only does it leave your skin with the best subtle glow, but it helps your makeup last allll day. I never have any issues with it settling into fine lines or pores so I would definitely recommend it!

Foundation

I rotate between my 2 favorite foundations. This one by Too Faced and my current obsessions by Estee Lauder.

In regards to the Too Faced Double Wear, I use the shade warm vanilla. Been obsessed with this foundation for a few years now. I have SUPER dry skin so I love that this foundation is infused with coconut water. It aids in replenishing the skin to give it that natural glow;) Its also medium to full coverage so it’s buildable on nights when you’re going for a full glam look all the while maintaining a lightweight/natural look. I’ve tried it on all my friends and have yet to find someone who it doesn’t work for!!

The Estee Lauder foundation (Shade: 2n1) is SO good. True Story: I accidentally knocked an entire bottle of this on my tile bathroom floor. Of course the glass bottle cracked in half and went everywhere…You already know my butt sat on that floor for a good 15 minutes trying to salvage every ounce of product that remained untouched. Put the rest of it in a clean dropper and never thought twice. It’s that worthy. But seriously, this foundation lasts all day for me. Its medium to full coverage but I swear it doesn’t even feel like i’m wearing makeup.

Concealer

(Light- Neutral) The holy grail… of course. Everyone raves about this product- and for good reason. It’s seriously SO good. I use it to brighten my under eyes and “T” zone. It provides full coverage and is super bendable. Iv’e tried a lot of concealers and can’t stand when they dry immediately after you apply them. That’s definitely not a problem with this product and it allows you to really take your time buffing the concealer it into your skin.

On days when the bags are really out to play, I’ll apply this concealer first and then build on it with Tarte one. This stuff is magic. It covers any blemish/bag. I will say, it definitely has more of a neutral color and I don’t feel like it brightens as much as the Tarte one, but it is insanely good at covering any blemishes/imperfections.

Powder

You always want to set your liquid products with a powder. I personally use the Laura Mercier setting powder to keep my makeup in place. It definitely gives your makeup a more finished look. This product is also perfect for anyone with oily skin- it absorbs moisture and reduces shine throughout the day.

Bronzer

Obsessed with these two bronzer. I usually sculpt out my cheek bones with the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer and then bronze the outside areas of my face in 3 like figure around my hairline, cheek bone, and chin with the Bobbi Brown bronzer. Both products add a ton of dimension to your face and apply so nicely.

Mascara

Can not rave about this mascara enough. It makes your lashes look double their natural length and insanely full. My favorite part…no fall out. There’s nothing worse than looking in the mirror and seeing black under your eyes after a long day.

Blush

(Shade: Orgasm) my makeup never feels complete without a rosey pink. This NARS blush is super versatile and is the perfect year round color.

Eyeshadow Pallette

With the exception of a few single Mac shadows, this is pretty much the only eyeshadow pallet that I use. The colors are SUPER pigmented and this pallette has the perfect range of shades. I stick to the neutrals and pinks but i love that there are so many other colors to play around with.

Setting Spray

Crucial when it comes to making your makeup last all night. This stuff is no joke. Between the Becca primer and this setting spray, I can wear my makeup for a full day without touch ups. Definitely worth the buy!!

You know what they say….What goes around always makes its way back around -and this fun 80’s trend is definitely back. PATCHES (stars in particular) have made a serious comeback this past year. Whether it be on a denim a jacket, shoes, or a suede bomber like the one worn above, this trend is EVERYWHERE. It’s such a fun way to vamp up an outfit.

I’d been eyeing this star jacket from Ruby and Jenna for a while and finally decided to go for it. It’s such a fun piece to throw over a bodysuit and pair with jeans for a night out!
